Jessica Simpson is coming back to television. According to E Online on Jan. 15, Simpson will star in a new sitcom based on her life for NBC.
This isn't Simpson's first foray into television as she starred in the reality television series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" from 2003-05 with her ex-husband Nick Lachey, from the boy band 98 Degrees. Simpson also had a television series that was supposed to debut in 2004 called "Jessica" that never broadcast the pilot before ABC television dropped the show.
Simpson will star in the new NBC show that is inspired by her own life. In the press release about the show, the founder of Electus, who will be coproducing the show, said that Simpson is a "modern day Lucy," referencing comedic genius Lucille Ball. Ben Silverman said she had "incredible comedic chops" and audiences will be "laughing out loud."
Based on Simpson's work in film, that might be stretching things a bit. Simpson has appeared in movies like "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Employee of the Month" and "Blonde Ambition" but hasn't appeared in a movie since 2008's "Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous."
The show is advertised to feature Jessica Simpson in everyday circumstances as she portrays herself running her fashion empire and acting as a mom.
