Jessica Simpson on 70-lb weight loss: My weight problems made me rich

Jessica Simpson flaunts toned legs: Her diet & workout for 70-lb weight loss

Jessica Simpson is proud of her recent 70-pound weight loss, especially her toned, sinewy legs. Simpson spotlighted her rippling thighs in a pair of short-shorts during a gym workout on Instagram.

"These are my legs during a workout today!" Jessica wrote in the caption. "I'm proud of myself." Simpson also gave a shout-out to her trainers, Teri Ann Krefting and Harley Pasternak, writing, "Thx @tkrefting and @harleypasternak."

Krefting is an expert at toning legs, as the creator of the Crunch: Belly Butt and Thighs Bootcamp workout DVD. Pasternak is Simpson's longtime trainer who helped her shed 70 pounds after each of her two pregnancies. Harley, author of The Body Reset Diet, also trains Halle Berry, Lady Gaga, and Kim Kardashian.

Low-Carb Diet and Daily 5-Mile Walks

The buxom 5-foot-3 Jessica has shed more than 70 pounds since giving birth to son Ace in June 2013. Simpson, a rep for Weight Watchers, has credited a low-carb diet and rigorous daily workouts for her incredible weight loss. Jessica's diet featured a mix of high-quality proteins like salmon and chicken and plenty of fresh vegetables and salads.

For exercise, the mom of two walks four to five miles every day (or 8,000 to 10,000 steps) and does yoga. Simpson also works out at the gym for 45 minutes, four days a week with Harley Pasternak, combining 10 to 20 minutes of cardio exercise, 20 to 30 minutes of resistance training, and lots of flexibility moves. Pasternak, creator of the 5-Factor Workout DVD, said the foundation of Jessica's workout regimen is daily walking, which she does no matter what.

'I've Been Every Size on the Planet'

Jessica feels unstoppable now, but said her pregnancy weight gain made her depressed and insecure. Simpson, who gained more than 70 pounds with both pregnancies, was demoralized by how big she got.

"I was so insecure; I couldn't even believe what I weighed," she said. "I don't think I ever expected to see the numbers that I've seen on the scale."

Ironically, Jessica said her weight struggles are part of the reason she's so successful with her clothing line, which boasts annual sales of $1 billion. Simpson said women relate to her because she's not naturally skinny and battles weight issues, just like many of them do.

“I have been every size on the planet and I understand women,” she told Forbes. “I definitely go up and down with my weight, and I'm really honest about it. If I'm 5 pounds heavier, if I'm 50 pounds heavier, or 5 pounds lighter, I just don’t think it should define who you are."

Simpson is glad she never caved in to the extreme pressure to resort to starvation diets or other unhealthy measures. "I was proud of myself throughout that period for not doing every crash diet and trying to get as skinny as I could, or not eating," she said.

Jessica, who recently amped up her diet and workout regimen ahead of her upcoming wedding to former NFL star Eric Johnson, has been hurt by the cruel media fat-shaming over the years, but said it taught her valuable lessons about body image and self-esteem.

"Tune into yourself and tune out the world," she said. "I think it's always good to go inward. There is some sort of god in all of us that can make us powerful."
