Jessica Latshaw warms hearts in a New York minute (Video)

The Eagles sing in one of their classic songs, "In A New York Minute" every thing can change. Earlier this this week on a subway in The Big Apple - it did.

This past Friday, January 6, MSN  posted a viral video that has garnered over 700,000 hits. (See video to the left of the article.) The video is also getting a lot of attention on Facebook and Twitter.

Armed with a ukulele and beautiful singing voice, Jessica Latshaw along with a Latin percussionist who goes by the name of  Quoom1, put on a little show for the NYC commuters early last week. The duo delivered an impromptu performance of a Latshaw penned number,"Aint My Friend." It was captured by someone identified as Matthew Schwartz on video via a smart phone and was uploaded to Youtube soon after.

Here is where it gets interesting... The two musicians had never met until their fateful subway ride.

From watching the video and seeing these two artists connect musically... one would never know that they hadn't gigged toghether in some club or coffee house in a Greenwhich Village or SoHo cafe. The two locked in effortlessly, to the delight of fellow train passengers.

Why is the video so popular? it is probably because the universal language of music breaks down barriers and brings pure joy to the soul. With the state of politics in our country and strife in the world, that is something that is greatly needed now more than ever.

The video and performance is innocent, pure and authentic. The fact that it is not sonically flawless is not the point. The moment is perfect which is why it is resonating with so many people worldwide. Another interesting fact is that according to the subway star, she considers herself more as a keyboard/pianist and has only been playing ukulele for a few months.

Latshaw went into the studio this past Sunday on January 8, to record the song featured in the video. It seems to be taking the internet by storm and putting a smile on people's faces in the process. The video captured a wonderful musical and human moment. Now that performance is capturing and warming hearts across the globe.

The new studio version of "Ain't My Friend" will be available for download on iTunes and Amazon.com toward the weekend of January 14.

Latshaw has a blog called, This Life in Writing. You can read about how she and a total stranger joined together one day on a New York city subway to create magic in a New York minute. Everything is about to change for Latshaw indeed.

Latshaw has also written and recorded some other songs as too. You can check out her work here.

Later on in the week I will have an interview with the New York singer / songwriter for SMI Radio and Examiner.com
