Jessica Hardy is aiming for her first trip to the summer games. This swimmer to watch is a breaststroke and freestyle sprinter who currently holds the world records in the 50M and 100M breaststroke. A member of the Trojan Swim Club at USC, Hardy trains under the guidance of Coach David Salo with fellow breaststrokers Rebecca Soni and Eric Shanteau. Watch for Jessica Hardy to swim well at the Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha in June.
Jessica missed her first opportunity to compete in the Summer Games after winning gold in the 100M breast and silver in the 50M free at the Olympic trials in 2008. Hardy voluntarily withdrew from the team after testing positive for a banned substance. (See her fan bio.) Although banned in the United States and by the IOC (International Olympic Committee), clenbuterol is approved for treatment of asthma in some countries.
We can expect fierce competition as Jessica and Rebecca Soni meet up in the Olympic Trials and, expectedly, in the 2012 Summer Games. Ranked number one (Soni) and number two (Hardy) in the world in the 100M breaststroke, these ladies are sure to make a splash in London. The competition will begin with heats for the 100M breaststroke on Tuesday, June 26 in Omaha, Nebraska. Jessica Hardy is a swimmer to watch this summer.
