According to a Dec. 30 post from MMA Junkie, Alexis Davis (15-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) will not be getting an immediate title shot against UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (8-0), but she is instead getting the opportunity to fight fast-rising knockout artist Jessica Eye (11-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a bout that could determine who is next for a shot at the belt.
Davis fights Eye at UFC 170 in Las Vegas, Nev., on the same card that is expected to feature a title fight between Rousey and Sara McMann.
UFC 170 takes place Feb. 22 at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Davis, who holds a 15-5 record, is ranked by several media outlets as the No. 2 bantamweight in the world, ahead of Zingano, Miesha Tate, Liz Carmouche and Sarah Kaufman.
She holds notable victories over Carmouche, Julie Kedzie, Shayna Baszler and several others.
Davis admits that she was a bit upset at being passed up for a title shot against Rousey, but she says she'll continue to work hard until she receives the opportunity to fight for the belt.
"Of coarse [sic] it sucks. But there is no sense crying over it. I'm just going to do what I do and continue to fight hard, till I get my shot!" Davis tweeted after finding out she wouldn't get the title shot she's been waiting for.
As for Eye, she's riding an eight-fight win streak that includes three wins under the Bellator MMA banner.
With the addition of Eye vs Davis, the UFC 170 card now includes a female bantamweight title fight, as well as a key tilt between Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier.
Also on the UFC 170 main card, Rory MacDonald fights. Demian Maia.
