After a back-and-forth three rounds, Jessica Eye was still unsure if she had won her UFC debut.

The Cleveland native had to wait until the judges’ scores were read to find out that she had beat Sarah Kaufmann by split decision at UFC 166. The judges scored the fight 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 in favor of Eye.

The bantamweight fight took place on the prelims of UFC 166 at the Toyota Center in Houston. The fight aired live on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday night.

Coming into the fight, Eye was considered one of the top flyweight fighters in the world but had to move up to 135 pounds to make her UFC debut against the former Strikeforce champ.

Early on in the fight, Eye’s hand speed was evident as Kaufman’s left eye began to swell from numerous jabs and dirty boxing from the clinch.

Kaufman was able to get back on track as the fight went on and landed several right hands that backed Eye up. Late in the third round, Kaufman was able to land a right hand that rocked “Evil” and put her in danger but she was able to survive and make it the bell.

With the win, Eye improves her record to 11-1 and now has an eight-fight win streak.

With the loss, Kaufman drops to 16-3 and 0-1 in the UFC.
