Jessica Dowling wins Open Division at Elite Massilia

Newly recognized as a Canadian again by the International Gymnastics Federation, Jessica Dowling captured the all-around in the Open division as Elite Massilia got underway Friday in Marseille, France.

Dowling, who competed for the Netherlands for a brief period earlier this year, scored 54.1 to best Australia's Georgia Rose Brown (53.65) and fellow Canadian Kaitlyn Hofland (53.3). She is the second Canadian to win the Open division at Massilia in as many years; junior Brianna Clark of Gymnix won the division in 2010.

A Canadian mixed team composed of Sarah Flett, Jessica Dowling, Tara Mauchel and Ellie Black topped the team standings in spite of an elbow injury sustained by Black on floor exercise, according to information from GymNet, the French Gymnastics message board.
