Jessica Barrymore, the half-sister of actress Drew Barrymore, died from a deadly combination of drugs and alcohol a few months ago. TMZ reported on Sept. 4 that Drew did not attend the funeral. Some people are accusing the actress of "snubbing" her half-sister, but could there be another reason why the actress did not attend Jessica Barrymore's funeral?
In late June, 47-year-old Jessica was found dead in her car with pills scattered on the passenger seat. It was concluded that she passed away due to a fatal combination of alcohol and drugs. Acute methamphetamine, methadone, tramadol and nordiazepam were found in her system. Friends and family doubt that she committed suicide and it was ruled as an accidental overdose.
Drew's half-brother, John Blyth Barrymore III, 60, told the National Enquirer that the actress has not spoken to them since Jessica's death. He said that he doesn't expect that they ever will. The actress did release a statement after Jessica's death,
"Although I met her briefly, I wish and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss."
Once the news that Drew didn't attend Jessica's funeral hit the Internet, a lot of people were quick to judge. However, Jessica and Drew did not grow up together and were not close. In her statement, Drew admits that the two only met briefly. The reason why she did not attend her half-sister's funeral could be because she didn't really know her. There are many people who don't attend the funerals of family members they were not close to.
According to Jessica Barrymore's death certificate, some of her remains were scattered off the San Diego coast, close to her hometown of National City. The rest of her ashes will be spread in the desert, the same place where father John Drew Barrymore's ashes were scattered.
Family deaths are hard on everyone and only Drew knows the real reason why she skipped Jessica's funeral. Even though people are curious to know the reason why, it is Drew's business and she is under no obligation to explain herself. Since the half-siblings were not close and only met briefly, the news of Drew skipping Jessica's funeral isn't as shocking as some headlines make it out to be.
