Jessica Alba talks diet and workout secrets: 'I have cellulite and a muffin top'

Jessica Alba's diet, workout and weight loss secrets for Sin City

Jessica Alba underwent rigorous daily dance workouts and followed a high-protein diet to play the sexy stripper Nancy Callahan in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," said her "Sin City" Jennifer Johnson trainer.

"The secret to have a great bod and not having to kill yourself to look good is eating right," dance instructor Jennifer "JJ Dancer" Johnson told People. "That’s Jessica's strong point: She's motivated nutritionally, and she eats a balanced diet of salads and proteins. If you're eating right, that’s more than half the battle."

Johnson, who choreographed Alba's dance sequences, also worked with her to play up her character's sexuality. The two did dance training and workouts that lasted anywhere from two to five hours per session.

Jessica would just follow my body, I'd have her winding, grinding and moving. We would grab the wall, I'd have her crawling, arching, humping. She would bring songs, I would bring songs – some were rock, some were sad, some were edgy – but they were all sexy."

Sprint Intervals, Strength-Training and Organic Diet

Alba's normal workouts include yoga, sprint intervals on the treadmill, spinning, and strength-training with her longtime trainer, Ramona Braganza. Like many people, Jessica does not like to exercise, but is disciplined her diet and amps up the intensity of her workouts when she needs to prepare for a film, event or photoshoot.

Braganza, creator of the 321 Training Method, helped Alba lose 60 pounds after her pregnancies and trained her for the films "Honey," "Fantastic Four," and "Into the Blue," in which she had a memorable bikini scene.

Alba follows a high-protein, low-carb organic diet that features low-starch vegetables and fruits such as blueberries, and she avoids processed food. Jessica, who has a family history of obesity, began cooking at an early age to take control of her diet.

"I started cooking for myself at 12 because a lot of food my family ate was processed," she told Women's Health. "I wanted fresh. I eliminated microwave foods, things with too much salt, and tried to eat more natural food, things that were cooked in a kitchen as opposed to a factory."

'I Have Cellulite, Stretch Marks and a Muffin Top'

Alba, who shot to stardom in 2000 after starring in the TV series "Dark Angel," is considered one of the hottest women in the world, but she's uncomfortable with her sex-symbol status. "I know that my looks were my path into Hollywood, but I never really enjoyed the kind of attention that comes with the [sex-symbol] image," she said.

Ironically, the brunette beauty said becoming a mother made her more at ease with her sexy image. "I’m finally comfortable in my own skin," said Jessica, 33. "I can embrace the idea of being a sexy and self-confident woman."

While her lean, athletic 5-foot-6 physique is the envy of millions of women, Alba claims she has cellulite and belly fat, and has learned to embrace her imperfections."I don’t have the body of a 14-year-old anymore," she said. "I have cellulite and stretch marks, and I have a muffin top! I think the more we try not to have that unrealistic ideal, the happier we’ll be."

Jessica has recently begun rebranding herself as a health and wellness guru. In her book, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You, she offers tips on weight loss, exercise, happiness, her organic diet, and her favorite recipes.

In 2012, Alba launched The Honest Company, which sells organic, eco-friendly health products. Broadening her horizons professionally has enabled the Latina stunner to enjoy acting while also having quality family time. "Before I started my family, acting was my total focus in life," she said. "I have different priorities as a mother."
