Jessi Colter, Montgomery Gentry help kick off release of new Waylon tribute CD

The much-hyped Waylon: The Music Inside, Volume II album was officially released Feb. 7 via retail outlets and on iTunes by Nashville-based Average Joes Entertainment.

The tribute CD is the sophomore installment of what will be a three-part series. And the late "Outlaw" hit-maker's widow, Jessi Colter, and country duo Montgomery Gentry will be front and center on the promotion trail for the album in the coming weeks, with national-TV appearances on GAC Headline Country, The Daily Buzz and CMT Insider, among other stops.

In addition to Grand Ole Opry inductees Montgomery Gentry and Colter, each of whom perform a classic Waylon Jennings hit on the newly released tribute album, the disc also features performances by Dierks Bentley, Hank Williams Jr., Jewel, Jack Ingram, Josh Thompson, Justin Moore, Colt Ford, Pat Green and Wyatt McCubbin.

As for the decision to create the three-part CD series in honor of her late husband, “I don’t know why certain people can just see what’s needed and do it,” Colter said of his legacy. “Those people are the starters, the leaders, the movers 'n' shakers. He was a leader.”

Per the Averages Joes PR camp, the particpating artists on Volume II are beyond tickled to be included on the tribute CD, not to mention true-blue fans of Jennings.

“The thing about him (Waylon), or me … we’re not going to put ourselves in a pigeonhole,” Hank Williams Jr. has said. “We’re not going to say we’re country. We’re not going to do that. We play music.”

Moreover, noted, Josh Thompson, “Waylon was the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. Loving that music drove me to play and that’s why it was important for me to be on this record.”
