Batman vs. Superman shows that you can have the best of both worlds when it comes to these two superheroes.

Deadline reported that Jesse Eisenberg has best cast as Lex Luthor, the greatest criminal mastermind of all time -- and the eternal nemesis of Superman, who fights for truth, justice and the American Way.

Joaquin Phoenix and Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston were rumored to be prime contenders for the role of Luthor, who has been played by Gene Hackman (Superman, Superman II and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace), Kevin Spacey (Superman Returns), John Shea (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville).

Also reported from Deadline is Jeremy Irons joining Batman vs. Superman in the role of Alfred Pennyworth, the trusted butler/mentor/father figure of billionaire Bruce Wayne, who vows to fight the criminals and the corrupt as the brooding Batman in honor of his murdered parents.

Michael Caine recently played the role of Alfred in Jonathan and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy with Christian Bale.

The sequel to Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck as the yin and yang of the superhero genre, with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

The film is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.
