According to a Nov. 2 tweet from Jessamyn Duke, the Kentucky brawler enjoyed some time with fellow TUF 18 contestants Shayna Baszler, Roxanne Modafferi and Jessica Rakoczy last night in the skybox of the Gladiators Fighting Championship MMA event in Las Vegas, Nev.
Duke, 27, shared a cute moment with Baszler when the ladies posed for a photo together while waiting for Modafferi and Rakoczy to show up, but "The Gun" shocked the world by utilizing a hover hand technique that she has rarely showcased in past photo ops with fans and fighters.
Duke got in close with Baszler, but put just her fingertips on the shoulder area of "The Queen of Spades." The encounter will go down in history as perhaps the first documented hover handing between two female MMA fighters.
For those who are unaware, "hover hand" is an awkward photo op in which the subject wraps their arm around a person with the hand hovering directly above their companion's shoulder.
Hover handing usually takes place in photos at conventions or events when a nervous nerdy guy is posing with an attractive female actress or model, so it was a bit shocking that Duke would hover hand Baszler.
Hover hands typically happen when a person is too nervous to touch the other person, so the average fight fan might look at this photo and assume Duke might be a bit scared of Baszler.
Before we can come to that conclusion, let's remember that Duke comes from a household where manners and strong morals are paramount.
Perhaps Duke was simply trying to show proper manners by not getting into someone else's personal comfort zone.
Duke is a strong woman who isn't afraid of anyone, so the conclusion that she was simply trying to be polite and not too touchy-feely makes more sense than the traditional "hover hand" explanation.
