Episode 6 of The Ultimate Fighter 18 created a lot of buzz. Many people called the fight between Raquel Pennington and Jessamyn Duke as the best match between two female fighters. The two female fighters battled for three rounds in a very close fight.
In the beginning of Episode 6, Pennington discusses being a lesbian and how hard it was to tell her family about her sexual orientation. She mentions that her family now supports her. To train for Duke, Pennington spars with Cody Bollinger, who trains at Millennia MMA in Rancho Cucamonga.
While her housemates enjoy themselves at a pool party, Duke stays home to focus as she awaits her match with Pennington. Duke explains that she would never go out if she had a fight the next day.
The night before the fight, fighter Anthony Gutierrez creates a lot of noise and makes it difficult for others, including Pennington and Duke, to sleep peacefully. The women in the house get their revenge the next morning by waking up Gutierrez and preventing him from getting all the rest he wants.
Despite getting their sleep interrupted by Gutierrez, Pennington and Duke put on a great fight. In the first round, Duke uses her range to keep Pennington away and uses her long limbs to attack Pennington. Duke even locks in a standing guillotine choke, but Pennington is able to defend it. In the second round, Pennington is able to close the distance and punish Duke with punches. After two rounds, the judges declare the fight a draw and call for a third round. The third round is hard to score. In the third round, Duke tries to use her length to keep Pennington away, and Pennington tries to close the distance and hurt Duke. After three rounds, Pennington wins by unanimous decision.
