The 15th Annual Jersey Shore Relay Marathon was held on Saturday, April 16, 2011. The Relay started in seaside Heights, NJ and made its way through Ortley Beach, Lavalette, Brick Beach, Mantaloking, Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach, Brielle, Manasquan, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, Belmar, Avon, Bradley Beach, Ocean Grove and finished inAsbury Park.
Over 400 teams comprised of 5 members participate in the event along the Jersy Shore making it the largest relay race in New Jersey and one of the largest Relays at the marathon distance in the country. In addition to the teams there were approxomately 40 individual runners who participated.
Participants came from across the country and several from foreign nations.
There were various divisions of competors inthe team relay including Open, Masters, Family, Fire, Police, Club, Government and Corporate.
The first place team was from Hoboken a - MTC - and finished the race in a record time of 2:13:42. They were followed by trhe "E Street Runners" from Basking Ridge in 2:33:31 and then the Princeton Running Club in 2:35:17.
In the individual competition the first place finisher for the men was Dr Peter Buhne of Frankfurt, Germany who finished in 3:07:32.
After the race runners were treated to a giant post race party inside Asbury Park's ConventionHall which included a pasta bar, salad and sunbs courtesy of the Jersey Shore's famous Jersey Mikes. Many runners also partied in the beer gardenset up in Convention Hall as well as many of the local establishments throught the City of Asbury Park.
Awards were then presented to the top finishers as well as the different categories.
An expo with many vendors displaying was also held inside the hall.
The race was part of RunAPAlooza a fund raiser for Special Olympics New Jersey and was staged by the Jersey Shore Running Club.
