'Jersey Shore' cast invades 'The View' (video)

The cast of MTV's Jersey Shore descended on The View Tuesday morning and gave the co-hosts an in-depth interview about what it's like to be television's hottest reality stars-du-jour.

Before allowing the heavily tanned, heavily moussed Jersey Shore cast to drape themselves across The View couches, the co-hosts debated the merits and drawbacks of the wildly popular reality program and its depiction of Italian Americans during the The View's "Hot Topics" segment.

Joy Behar, an Italian American, has been a vocal opponent of Jersey Shore in the past and continued her criticisms Tuesday morning: "I object to it because it basically shows Italian Americans as being stupid, promiscuous, narcissistic and not that bright."

Sherri Shepherd, who was sporting a Snooki-inspired hairdo for in honor of the Jersey Shore cast's appearance, countered: "What about The Sopranos?"

Joy Behar launched into a rant:

"The Sopranos is different, or The Godfather--they show a segment of the society that existed or exists some places, but they also show the effect it has on the innocent. They show in The Sopranos how the children suffer for the father's misdeeds...In this show, they do not show the ramifications of promiscuous, unsafe sex. They do not show the effects of the fact that these kids in years to come they may not have a career because they're not going to school."

Whoopi Goldberg agreed with Behar: "Where do they go from here?"

Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck both embraced the show's mind-numbing effects: "The people on the show are so crazy," said Sherri Shepherd. "I don't know if people look at the show and go you know, I just, I don't want to think. I just want to sit there and enjoy and not worry about my own life."

"It's extreme," stated Hasselbeck. "I think there's a level of extremity. It's just kind of like you can be passive and watch it. It's also raised a ton of controversy as we've been hearing too. I'm half Italian. If you want to become a stereotype, that's your choice."

Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio and Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino sat down with The View co-hosts first and responded to the panel's questions and were eventually joined by four other cast members.
