The first Connecticut branch of Jersey Mike’s Sub shop opened Wednesday in Wilton and was mobbed with eager customers within hours. The shop opened at 35 Danbury Rd, also called Kent Center, just next to Dunkin Donuts.
Jersey Mike’s distinguishes itself by slicing the meat and cheese for your sandwich right on the spot, so the cold cuts are as fresh as possible, and “piled high on store-baked bread.” This approach has been extremely successful: Jersey Mike’s has over 1300 stores open and in development nationwide. The local franchise owners Brian Kelley and Troy Davidson also plan shops in Ridgefield, Fairfield and Brookfield shortly.
Jersey Mike’s subs are seasoned with a mixture of Italian seasonings, and “the juice,” a red wine vinegar and olive oil blend.
We tried out one of their favorites, “The Original Italian,” made from provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni, shown in the pictures as it is prepared. Subs are available as Mini, Regular and Giant: the one we ordered was a Regular and was a substantial lunch.
Other favorite cold subs include ham and provolone, turket breat, tuna fish, roast beef, and club sub with turkey, ham, bacon and provolone.
Hot subs include the Philly Cheesesteak (steak or chicken) Meatball and Cheese, Chicken Parm and Grilled Pastrami Reuben. You can also order any of the subs in a salad bowl without the bread, or as wraps.
The complete menu is shown here. Kid sized portions with a cookie and drink are also available.
Judging by the first day, Jersey Mike’s looks like a winner in South Wilton. We guarantee we’ll be back!
