With the big-screen adaptation of the hit, Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys coming to theaters this summer, many book lovers who are also fans of the legendary band will no doubt be perusing the biography and performing arts sections of their local bookstores and libraries to explore Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons in print. An irresistible read for fans of the group and the musical is the Broadway show's companion book Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons by David Cote. This book includes over 200 photos and interviews with band members. The musical's libretto is also featured, as well as interviews with the show's writer, director and cast.

Now a little about the highly anticipated movie. Clint Eastwood directs this film about four young guys from the wrong side of the tracks, singing on the streets of New Jersey, who form the hugely popular and timeless 1960’s rock group The Four Seasons, fronted by Frankie Valli. The premise of this jukebox musical is appealing for many reasons: It’s an inspiring rags to riches story; it takes place during the music industry’s most exciting and transformative era; and it centers on a group that wasn’t just a part of early rock but helped create it, pioneering a sound that became the anthem for a rapidly changing American pop culture scene. The struggles, internal clashes and triumphs of these friends/band mates are accompanied by many of their iconic hit songs.

Cast members from the original Broadway show that will be reprising their roles for the film include John Lloyd Young starring as Frankie Valli; Mark Lotito (Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives); Donnie Kehr as loan shark Norm Waxman; and in the role of Frankie’s girlfriend, Lorraine is Erica Piccininni,, best known for the TV series Friends with Benefits. Other cast members include Boardwalk Empire’s Vincent Piazza; Erich Bergen (Joey Dakota); and the legendary Christopher Walken.

Based on the musical book by Marshall Brickman, the movie was penned by acclaimed screenwriter John Logan, known for hit action films like Skyfall and Gladiator. Logan’s collaborator is newcomer Rick Elice.

Jersey Boys opens in theaters nationwide on June 20, 2014.
