Jerry Velona song: 'Bureau of Whatever' or 'Bureau of WTF?'

Singer-songwriter Jerry Velona is back with another bureaucracy-bashing ballad, The Bureau of Whatever.

In 2010 Libertarian News Examiner highlighted his hilarious anti-bureaucracy music video Leave Me Alone about a backyard barbeque turned ugly when authoritarian pencil-pushers from the Bureau of Safety and Security (BOSS) invaded with their rules, restrictions and regulations.

His new song, The Bureau of Whatever, Velona told Libertarian News Examiner, will be released later this year. "Then, if anyone wants to purchase it, I’m selling it as a download only through my website ... for the low, low price of $2.00. Such a deal!"

With its clever, intelligently-crafted lyrics ("She gives me sweet direction in that NPR tone" speaks paragraphs by itself) libertarians should love the Bureau of Whatever in its depiction of what can only be called an archetypal government Department of Dependency where welfare-wallowers and career cubicle clerks become locked in lifelong destructive parasitical symbiosis.

What many libertarians won't like however is Velona's libertarian/conservatism, which seems to have lost the part in front of the slash mark from two years ago.

The 2010 article described Velona's political philosophy this way:

"Non-musically, Velona describes himself as a 'small L libertarian/conservative.'"

Now it would seem from his own statement to Libertarian News Examiner that rather than becoming more libertarian he has become more hardcore conservative instead:

"I believe in limited, constitutional government: ordered liberty – American style! I also believe in a muscular American foreign and military policy which is where I part company with most Libertarians. The concept of fortress America and isolationism is just another Utopian fantasy in my opinion."

But libertarians, of course, are neither isolationist (they're non-interventionist) nor utopian (They're rational); it's that "ordered liberty" (ordered by whom, and by what means?) and that "muscular American foreign and military policy" that most libertarians would find utopian.

So while Velona understands the bankrupting nature of the neo-lib "Bureau of Whatever" total social welfarism at home he misses the bankrupting nature of the neo-con "Bureau of Bullying" total global warfarism abroad that together, as "A combination of fiscal deficits and military overstretch," is destroying America as surely as it has destroyed virtually every superpower in history and leaves us all rotting under a massive statist-corporatist-militarist "Bureau of WTF."

So love his music, love his lyrics, but not his views on coercive global empire.
