Celebrity Senior News!
Singer Jerry Lee Lewis turns 75 years old on September 29, 2010 -- but he is not letting age slow him down one bit when it comes to his music career. For that matter, the 1950s rock and roll legend is not letting his personal life get in the way of his job, either. Lewis' new CD, Mean Old Man, came out on Tuesday September 7 and the album is expected to do well with a multi-generational crowd.
Lewis, who divorced his sixth wife back in 2005, says a seventh marriage is not likely to be in the cards. He probably won't marry again.
But just because the famous piano man has given up a quest for a perfect bride and romance does not in any way shape or form mean he is ready to retire from life.
"I could have retired a long time ago," the self-described "Southern boy" tells USA Today.
Then, with an adolescent gesture, he punches his fist in the air proclaiming:
"I keep rockin'!"
Jerry Lee Lewis was born in 1935 to a very religious family from the Deep South. His parents actually sold their house to buy their son a piano -- and shortly thereafter he was thrown out of Christian school for playing a Boogie Woogie song about Jesus on the piano.
Lewis is famous for saying, "I was born feet first, and I've been jumpin' ever since."
His other favorite line?
"If I'm going to Hell, I'm going there to play on a piano!"
And even though his songs were once called the devil's music, Lewis says he's still "a religious man. . . . I never lost my connection, and I'm looking forward to going to heaven." He adds, "I certainly hope they need a piano player."
