Considered by many to be one of the greatest storylines in pro-wrestling history, Andy Kaufman's venture into wrestling was a National hit that took both Andy and Jerry Lawler to new heights. Their feud spread from the wrestling ring to talk shows and from Memphis to Hollywood. The impact of this feud still resonates with Lawler who continues to push for Andy's induction into the WWE HOF. According to a Thursday January 12th report by the Miami Herald, Lawler made the following comments about Kaufman:
"I've pushed for him to be there," he said. "The match I had with him, and that whole scenario I think opened the door and changed the face of wrestling to what it is today...Every time you look around Hollywood stars want to be on Monday Night Raw or involved in WWE I think it all started with Andy Kaufman. I think he really deserves to be in there."
Kaufman's feud with Lawler gripped the wrestling world and turned the Hollywood critics upside down with his believable disdain for Lawler and the women he wrestled. Andy was a brilliant comedic who was able to fool a nation and create an angle that had everyone buzzing for nearly two years. It was an angle that Andy first approached WWF about but was shot down before heading to Lawler.
