If Jerry Jones were to come out and fire himself as the general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, I believe these would be the words of the pompous owner. “Jerry Jones the owner, must fire Jerry Jones the GM.”
He refused to talk about the firing of coaches but Jones, Jason Garrett, Tony Romo and other members of the Dallas Cowboys are furious at the results of the 2012 NFL season, and there is no reason they shouldn’t be.
On paper, the Dallas Cowboys are much better than another 8-8 season and missing the playoffs for the third straight season, or are they?
The blame will be put on Tony Romo as his three interceptions match his total from the last eight games combined, but the change needed lies in Jerry Jones the G.M., not Tony Romo.
They say a little knowledge of everything is a good thing, but not when it comes to the NFL, it can be dangerous. What qualifies Jones to be the general manager of this team?
When appearing on NBC, Jones was asked the question if he was only the owner and had a general manager, would he have made a change. He stated “I would probably have made a change, but that’s not our situation.”
Anyone would make that change. The Cowboys have won just two playoff games since their last Super Bowl appearance, in the 1995 season when they beat Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XXX, and haven’t drafted well on a consistent basis. Only five players remain from the 2009 and 2010 drafts combined.
Jones stated per ESPN.com, there was no way he will ever relinquish the general manager title with the Dallas Cowboys, but in order for them to succeed he must push aside his ego and realize that his decision making is part of the reason they are a .500 team.
