Jerome Simpson, suspended by the NFL, will miss three games for the Minnesota Vikings. Simpson was important to the Vikings as a third receiver and could have been a good fringe fantasy football pick. Now he will miss time that is going to allow someone else to step up in the rotation. According to a report from Yahoo! on Friday (Aug. 29), this was the second time he has violated the league substance abuse policy. It led to this punishment of a three game ban to start the season.

Simpson is going to miss games against the St. Louis Rams, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints during his suspension. He will return to the active roster on Sept. 22 and will be available to play against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4 action. Until then, the only two receivers that deserve serious fantasy football consideration are Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings. Both should be more heavily involved in the offense than before as well. That could be a bonus for owners drafting them.

Last season for the Vikings, Simpson had 48 catches for 726 yards and one touchdown. He had fringe value in fantasy football leagues, but could have seen more action this year due to familiarity with the system. That might be gone now and it might not even be worth stashing him on the bench in typical 10 or 12 team leagues this season. Fans of the Minnesota Vikings should certainly be frustrated with Jerome Simpson, though, as getting suspended really hurts the team in its receiving depth.
