Jermell Charlo dominates Yorgey on Showtime

Last night, Houston native Jermell Charlo continued his winning ways by dominating an over matched Harry Joe Yorgey of Pennsylvania on Showtime Championship Boxing.

The 35 year old Yorgey proved to be little competition to the much faster 22 year old Jermell Charlo.

Charlo (20-0, 10 KOs) sent Yorgey (25-2-1, 12 KOs) to the canvas twice in the second round with quick right hand blows. The first right hand knocked off Yorgey’s equilibrium and sent him down. The second right hand landed to the side of Yorgey’s head and sent him down again.

Six rounds later in round eight, Charlo ended the fight by landing yet another right hand flush to the skull of Yorgey after setting up the punch with a quick jab. Kenny Bayless waved of the fight at 1:09 into the round.

Using body shots and a relentless jabs, Charlo was able to dictate the pace of the fight quite easily. There was not a single moment of doubt in the mind of Charlo. He knew that the fight was over before it began.

I knew this was mine from the get go. Ronnie told me to come out in the first round and get his respect. From the opening bell I knew it was mine.

Yorgey, who made his name after knocking out Ronald Hearns four years ago, has not been the same since his devastating loss to Alfredo Angulo.

With the win Charlo claimed a minor WBC continental Americas title.
