The hot rumor in the sneaker world during the past week has now been confirmed as adidas announced the signing of Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin on Monday. Terms of the deal was not disclosed but according to adidas, Lin will be prominently featured in future adidas marketing campaigns and will have a role in the development of new basketball gear moving forward.
The signing of Lin comes at a time when adidas is looking to reload and regroup after their top basketball athlete Derrick Rose went down with another season-ending injury. With a young and talented roster of point guards including John Wall, Damian Lillard, Ricky Rubio and Jrue Holiday, Lin will be looking to fit into the quick and fast oriented style that adidas Basketball has grown to be known for in the past few years.
This is the second big signing adiads has been a part of in as many months with someone defecting from Nike, the first being rapper Kanye West. Even though the phenomenon known as "Linsanity" is nowhere close to the heights it achieved during a magical stretch in New York back in 2011, Lin's name still carries a lot of weight and value and playing on a team that has championship aspirations along with fellow adidas athlete Dwight Howard is another key factor in the signing.
