New York Knicks player Jeremy Lin has forgiven ESPN writers for their racist and offensive headline "Chink in the Armor," which was put on the site's mobile version. ESPN actually fired the writer for that poor headline choice. An anchor was also suspended for using "chink" on the air.
After leading the Knicks to a win over Dallas on Sunday, Jeremy Lin said, "I don't think it was on purpose or whatever, but (at) the same time they have apologized. And so from my end I don't care anymore. Have to learn to forgive, and I don't even think that was intentional. Or hopefully not."
Good for the Harvard graduate for having such a good attitude about this. It is not acceptable for people to be racist about the NBA player even if they are just trying to joke. Hopefully this situation drew attention to the subject, and people will be more sensitive about it in the future and learn that racism in any form is not okay.
Meanwhile, it certainly has been great to watch as Linsanity has taken over the world. Jeremy Lin has done an amazing job seemingly out of nowhere for the New York Knicks.
