Jeremy Lin has been benched by the Houston Rockets. Lin had been the starting point guard, but the Rockets are replacing him with Patrick Beverley in the rotation. According to a report from Wednesday (Oct. 30), the reason for this is that the team needs more defense and better three-point shooting from the position. Those are strengths for Beverley, which seems to be why the decision was made.
Another reason that he is heading to the bench is that he has a very similar game to James Harden. He isn't nearly as good as Harden, but the two players bring a similar game to the court. By being in the second unit, he won't have to share the court with Harden as much, possibly helping his overall statistics in the end. That's something that fantasy basketball owners will want to pay close attention to, because as of now, starting a player from the second unit in Houston is a risk.
These Jeremy Lin rumors haven't yet been confirmed by Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale, but several players have confirmed that it is Patrick Beverley starting in the opening game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Now it will be interesting to see if a first unit that now includes Dwight Howard can make this roster one of the best in the Western Conference. The first game of the season is on Wednesday night for the team.
