Jeremy Doss (#75 I-5 Tire Factory Ford) will chart new territory this weekend despite having several championship trophies in his possession. The 16-year old rising star in west coast motorsports will make his debut in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour, as the series kicks off its 13th season Saturday night at Madera (CA) Speedway in the Melo's Gas & Gear 151 presented by 51 FIFTY Energy Drink.
Doss, is one of eleven Rookie-of-the-Year contenders registered for the 151-lap event on the one-third mile paved oval. Adding to the challenge for Doss this weekend is that this will be his first ever visit to the central California oval where he will be driving a brand new Pathfinder chassis that has never been on track.
New is nothing new for Doss, who continues to excel behind the wheel of every racecar he has ever piloted. Last season he claimed the AABLMS Series title wining seven races along the way, won two races in the RMCS events, scored several victories in Legend cars as well as Late Model special events. This winter he kept his skills sharp by driving in the Outlaw Cage Cart Winter Series at Lakeport, CA where he posted numerous victories.
The challenge this weekend in Madera becomes a whole lot tougher as he will go door to door with some of the best racers to ever wheel a stock car. "Just making the show this weekend will be an accomplishment," Doss offered. "I know we have our work cut out for ourselves on Saturday but I know we have a great car for the series and my dad (Mike Doss) and Dale Dodd (crew chief) have great setups. The practice on Friday is going to help a lot and hopefully we will be ready come Saturday."
There will be a lot to learn in a short time for Doss and he figures to try and soak it all in. "I know I can learn from all the veterans. (Jim) Pettit and (MK) Kanke are some of the best and if you are going to win you have learn from those guys."
Joining Doss at Madera will be fellow ROTY contender and his teammate Brandon White. White has also had success in Late Models winning several races last season. "It will be fun to race with Brandon this year, but he is just one more guy I will need to beat," Doss said. "My main focus is to learn this new car and get used to the competition. I know we are going to be successful and I am excited to get on track."
The SRL will contest ten races this season beginning with the race at Madera and ending in Las Vegas, NV in November. The series will also visit Pikes Peak Int'l Raceway in Colorado for an inaugural event. The race at PPIR will be the biggest track (1-mile banked oval) the series has ever competed on.
