Jensen Ackles & Jared Padalecki tease ‘Supernatural’s’ wedding & “Slash Fiction”

When LA TV Insider Examiner caught up with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki on the Vancouver set* of Supernatural this month, we asked them a little bit about the struggles for their characters this season. Admittedly, we have always been much more focused on the emotional arcs for the boys, rather than “just” the demon of the week, but season seven seems to be ripe with both!

“With all of the ups and downs Sam’s gone through, I think he’s concerned now with getting his footing right again, as opposed to kind of calling Dean out, unless it’s something that’s very important. As it is, Sam’s like ‘Well, I’m talking to Lucifer, and I’m talking to you…I’ve got to get my head straight.’ First thing’s first, I think Sam has to fix himself,” Padalecki said.

It may be a long road for Sam, and the wall may never truly be re-erected in his mind, but at a certain point the boys are going to have to just come to terms with it and stop trying to “fix” what they can’t control, right? In “Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!” episode that will air on November 11th, Ackles shared that more than ever before Dean may be ready to do so.

“Dean basically is saying, ‘Look, you’re an adult; I know you can take care of yourself; you don’t need me.’ You know, he’s coming to that realization, which is tough for him because he’s always looked out for his little brother. But there is a shift change in this season; he understands he can’t baby-sit him,” Ackles offered.

And while Ackles and Padalecki have perfected the art of portraying their internal struggles with just one look between brothers, there are, of course, a lot of physical threats to the brothers that will most likely see them banding together anyway, especially in “Slash Fiction”-- but no, not in that way; get your mind out of the gutter!

“Slash Fiction” will see the boys going on the run once again as the Leviathans pull out all of the stops to get to the boys. As Ackles teased: “The Leviathans are trying to weed us out…and they’ve come up with different scenarios, trying to do so. One of them is getting the cops, basically, put on our trail and really making us America’s Most Wanted.”

Though the Leviathans won’t be slipping their way into Sam or Dean’s bodies to carry out crimes directly, they have their own way of getting to them nonetheless, namely copying them and using their likeness meatsuits to carry out heinous crimes. Hence the cops on their trail ala season one’s “Skin” and shapeshifter Dean.

But even “sitting ducks” Sam and Dean, as Padalecki put it, are formidable opponents. The Leviathan may be a bigger bad than we’ve ever seen before, but that’s just because it’s a new threat. Once Dean and Sam feel them out and get to understand what was previously unheard of, we have no doubt they’ll be able to take them down, just as they have done every other crazy supernatural being that crosses their path!

Supernatural airs on Friday nights at 9pm on The CW.
