Will he stay or go?
Since the culmination of the Packers’ 2012 campaign three weeks ago, much of the talk surrounding the organization has centered on the future of Pro-Bowl wide receiver Greg Jennings.
With news breaking last week that the seven-year pro, who is a free agent, put his De Pere home on the market, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the early indications would seem to suggest that Jennings in anticipating changing zip codes come next season.
Yet, the 29-year-old Jennings, during an interview on “The Jim Rome Show” on Friday, noted that he would more than welcome the chance to retire as a Packer.
“It’s been great,” cited Jennings, who has 53 career touchdown receptions, in regards to having played his entire career in Green Bay. “Great fans, great organization, just great environment. The fans are great, but, most importantly, just being able to play on the same field that some of the greats have played…wear that same uniform that the greats have worn. It’s something to say that I was a part of that tradition.”
When asked by Rome if he would like to end his career wearing green and gold, Jennings said, simply, "Yes.”
In turn, when the topic as to whether he had been given any indication by the team as to his status beyond this season was broached, Jennings, selected by Green Bay in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2006 NFL draft out of Western Michigan, noted, “No, none at all.”
Jennings, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich., continued: “I’m good with it. It’s a business; I understand it…If I’m fortunate to be there for the remainder of my career, I’m locked in, I’m there."
This past season, Jennings, who missed eight games due to injury, accounted for 36 receptions, 366 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
For his career, the 5’11”, 198-pound Jennings has played in 96 contests and accumulated 425 receptions and 6,537 yards receiving.
