Honesty may be a lonely word but in the right hands it is a beautifully melodic one. The best of Los Angeles music revolutionizes the city by daring LA to admit the secret that it too can feel and Jennifer Quiroz does exactly that.
W.E. Having grown up in Los Angeles, but having also spent considerable recent time in the niceties of Nashville how would you compare the two cities?
J.Q. It's hard enough to grow up, but in LA, you have twelve-year olds carrying designer handbags. Kids in Los Angeles experience judgment, vanity and the pressure to look and act a certain way so early in life; it's easy to mistake beauty with and place too much importance on the latest trends. Thank God for my parents and things like music that helped teach me there is a whole other world out there and the things in life that really matter. I do love LA though. It is my home and I have found some remarkably beautiful people and artists here. I also came out the other end a songwriter, which I'm eternally grateful for.
I think one of the reasons I love Nashville so much is the people at large are kind, warm, hospitable, and there are just beautiful songs everywhere. You go out to any bar in Nashville any night of the week, and you will find an amazing singer, songwriter, or musician. And the songs....there are so many of them about real things...heartbreak, falling in love, the little things in life. The songs are more than melody and words; they are a story. There is an honesty. There is a specificity. And that honesty is infectious. So when I say Nashville is "nice," I think that Nashville is honest and smiles at you. It doesn't just shake your hand. It gives you a big hug, as soon as you meet.
