A young Fla. woman, 22-year-old Jennifer Mee, also known as the “hiccup girl,” first came into the public spotlight when she was only 15 due to her rare condition of non-stop hiccupping. For the last few years though, Mee was has been in the spotlight as the central figure in a Fla. murder trial.
On Sept. 20, Jennifer Mee was found guilty of first-degree murder in a Clearwater courtroom.
According to CNN, Jennifer Mee:
… wept after the verdict was read in a Florida court, sometimes holding her head in her hands. She sobbed some more as she was led out of the room for a jail cell.
Pinellas County Judge Nancy Moate Ley sentenced her to life in prison without parole …
Back in 2010, Mee met a man, Shannon Griffin, online, and lured him to a vacant home in in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Waiting for the man at that vacant home with Mee, were two of Mee’s accomplices in the murder, Laron Raiford and Lamont Newton.
At the fatal meeting between Mee and Griffin, Mee led Griffin to the rear of the house, where her armed cohorts waited to rob and murder the unsuspecting victim. Griffin died from multiple gunshots delivered by a .38-caliber revolver.
Mee, Raiford, and Newton, who all lived together, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder shortly after police found Griffin’s body.
Laron Raiford was sentenced to life in prison last month. Lamont Newton is still awaiting trial.
