The release of United Against Nuclear Iran parody of Jennifer Lopez’s Fiat commercial has everyone gasping on Monday. Taking the commercial Lopez made for the Fiat car and interspersing it with bodies, guns and a voiceover to allege the actress endorses the behavior of others is quite intense.
According to the information below the parody commercial, the group is targeting the actress as her alleged relationship with Fiat isn’t exactly what the group appreciates.
“Tell Jennifer Lopez to end her endorsement of Fiat, a company who, through its subsidiary Iveco, sells and distributes cars and trucks in Iran that have been used by the brutal Iranian regime to transport ballistic missiles and stage gruesome public executions,” states the message below the commercial.
While the commercial definitely hits below the belt and isn’t a fair representation of the American Idol judge, Jennifer Lopez hasn’t responded to the parody nor has any of her representatives. Fans are shocked as the issue seems out of context and doesn't connect directly with the artist except to draw attention.
In a very touchy subject of using famous faces for ads and politics, Hollywood will be watching to see what happens. Using a celebrity image, without prior permission, isn’t always legal even if it is a nonprofit. Protecting the brand of each individual, the law could actually challenge using Lopez’s likeness in this commercial, especially without prior consent and the use of Lopez’s music is a whole different issue as even in the eyes of YouTube it must be sourced to credit the artist (which it isn't.) This issue could a lawsuit in the making as it questions so many legal points.
