“American Idol” saw a very emotional Jennifer Lopez last night as she broke down in tears when one of the contestants did not make the cut. Jennifer Lopez explained what led up to her moments of tears to People Magazine today.
Jennifer Lopez could not contain herself when Chris Medina, a contestant who came to “American Idol” with a heartbreaking story, did not make it into the next round. This was a package deal for Jennifer Lopez. Not wanting to add more pain to someone who has been through so much in his personal life, prompted the tears, but Jennifer Lopez also had another reason.
Jennifer Lopez said quite simply what you saw happen last night was just Jennifer Lopez being the real Jennifer Lopez. “American Idol” has been the one venue where she is seen by fans that lets her be herself.
This along with not having any time to prepare to tell this young man, that she obviously felt some bond with, that his journey was over. Jennifer Lopez said she realized that when it was her turn, she had Chris Medina in the group she was slated to read off.
Jennifer Lopez started to get a bit panicky because this young man has already had enough heartbreak in his life, that she did not want to deliver any more bad news to him, but as a judge on “American Idol,” she had no choice.
The biggest surprise is the mature and gentlemanly way that Chris Medina handled the news. This was the real Jennifer Lopez showing her feelings, she told People today.
The closest audition spot for Connecticut talent to try out for American Idol this season was in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Many Connecticut hopefuls made it down to the city with the board walk to try their luck at fame. Connecticut residents had about a four hour drive to the audition spot, but that is not too far to travel for a shot at fame.
