Jennifer Lopez new American Idol judge
There was much speculation but now it looks like Jennifer Lopez has been chosen to be the new American Idol judge.
Jennifer Lopez has been signed for a one year contract, according to TMZ and Lopez will be getting a cool $12million for taking on the role at Fox TV.
It's a surprise that Lopez is only taking on a one-year contract. Prevous judges like Simon Cowell and even Randy Jackson were signed up for multiple seasons.
Some speculate that the reason for the short contract could be that Fox is hoping to make Jennifer Lopez season with American Idol just a trial one.
Kara DioGuardi has now retired from the show as has Ellen DeGeneres.
Steven Tyler is said to be on the new panel and auditions for next season's show will start next week.
Rumors are that JLo originally asked for $15 million but that could have been just part of her negotiations. She has happily settled for $12 million.
Many speculate that the show will not be as popular now that Simon Cowell is no longer one of the judges. Cowell is going on to create an American X-Factor, similar to his popular UK show.
San Francisco residents can watch the new season of American Idol on Fox Channel 2. The show comes on at 8pm on Tuesday nights.
