Jennifer Lopez is in the best shape of her life at 44, thanks to a portion-controlled diet and rigorous workouts.
Lopez is hailed for her bombshell curves now, but rose through the Hollywood ranks at a time when there were few women with a body like hers. Looking back, she's proud that she never buckled under the pressure to become super-skinny.
"When I first started on television, people — even my own manager at the time — would tell me I had to make all of these changes," Lopez told Cosmopolitan Latina Oct. 22.
But you have to stand up and say, 'There’s nothing wrong with me or my shape or who I am. You’re the one with the problem. 'And when you can really believe that, all of the sudden other people start believing too."
Jennifer said she fired the manager who said she was too thick and needed to diet. While she may have been meaty by Hollywood standards, Lopez's self-confidence never wavered, thanks to the love and support of her family.
"Early on, my family really made me love who I was and what I looked like," said the mom of two. "My body was nothing out of the ordinary in my neighborhood."
Lopez has no interest in being super-thin, but is a longtime fitness fanatic who eats well and works out regularly to stay healthy.
The former dancer works out up to two hours a day doing cardio exercise combined with strength-training and lots of stretching.
Jennifer tries to stick to a 1,200-1,400-calorie-a-day diet, but her No. 1 diet secret is portion control.
"Just like anybody, I try to watch what I eat," she said. "There's no big science to it.
"I love to eat everything, and you pretty much can. A little piece of something fattening is not going to kill you. It's when you eat the whole box that it's going to kill you."
