Talk about glitz! Yahoo news reported on Thursday that Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. will be judging "American Idol" contestants during the upcoming season 13. Keith Urban is the first judge that was confirmed for the show and the most popular Randy Jackson will return to the show as a mentor. Today's news rounds out the show quite nicely, giving depth to the judging panel.
We are excited to see Jackson use his incredible experience to coach and mentor the contestants. Viewers will get to watch a little bit more than the typical "Yo - Dawg" encouragement. Several viewers here are very excited for JLo's return, but are thrilled that Keith Urban is returning to judge contestants. Jennifer Lopez is adept at spotting problems and putting it to the contestants in a way that they can understand.
Harry Connick Jr. will be an excellent judge and given his jazz background, we might be able to expect him to pull a lot of specialized critique of contestants. We enjoyed watching him in season 12 as a mentor.
Keith Urban captured our thoughts with his remarks:
"I think this season of 'Idol' is gonna be a blast! New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!"
It is interesting that at this point in time there will be only one female judge. The constant bickering of two divas during the first half of season 12 distracted many viewers and did not help the show's ratings. Viewers are ready for a return to a solid talent search.
The glitz of the show has just reached new levels with the star power of the judging team. The mentoring should rock the sound waves and this year we can focus on incredible glitz instead of drama.
