Jennifer Hudson and her sister Julia Hudson graciously and emotionally accepted the favorite humanitarian award last night during the 40th anniversary of the People’s Choice Award.
The thirty-two year old singer/actress won a plethora of awards for her role as Effie White in the 2006 hit film “Dreamgirls”. From Academy Awards to Golden Globes Awards this talented woman is no stranger to stardom.
During October 2008, Hudson’s twenty-nine year old brother, fifty-seven year old mother and seven year-old nephew were found murdered by Julia Hudson’s estranged husband. The convicted murderer, William Balfour, is currently serving three life sentences in Illinois.
The tragedy undoubtedly affected the family in ways no one could ever imagine. Still, Hudson preserved and created The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims alongside her sister Julia Hudson in their memory and honor. J-Hud later went on to lose a substantial amount of weight and provide wonderful music to her fans’ ears. She made an appearance in 2009 at the Super Bowl XLIII singing the Star-Spangled Banner and astonishing hundreds of thousands of viewers.
