Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson has come along way since being in the top 10 on Season 3 of “American Idol”. Hudson has established herself both professionally and has come to embrace herself physically and losing weight was apart of her transformation. Hudson told PEOPLE magazine on Feb. 10 that the key to weight loss is to “do it for you.”

Hudson talked about her weight loss while on the red carpet before the taping of the 2014 BET Honors. In a white dress and new hairdo, Hudson opened up about dedication and not allowing anyone to deter you from your goals.

“It’s not about even starting the journey, it’s about you. You have to want to do it. And you can’t let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you.”

Hudson can relate to “The Biggest Loser” winner Rachel Frederickson who has been criticized for her dramatic weight loss. Like Frederickson, Hudson has taken her own criticism for losing too much weight, but proclaims if you are happy with yourself, that is all that matters.

Jennifer Hudson was definitely embracing herself and her new short hairdo. She told PEOPLE that she is still finding her “niche”.

“I’m like, ‘I like this short thing.’ I’m just embracing it.”

Hudson paid tribute to Aretha Franklin during the taping of the 2014 BET Honors, which will air on Feb. 24.
