Former American Idol contestant, and award winning actress and singer, Jennifer Hudson, age 28, is the latest celebrity to become a spokesperson for Weight Watchers. Jennifer Hudson had a baby, David Jr., born in August 2009 and latest photos show a “new” Jennifer with a slimmer figure. Jennifer Hudson follows in the footsteps of other celebrities such as Jenny McCarthy and Lynn Redgrave who have also represented Weight Watchers.

What Jennifer Hudson says about losing weight with Weight Watchers

Jennifer Hudson said about the Weight Watchers program:

“...I'm enjoying the weight loss because I'm doing it the right way – I feel empowered with what I've learned, everything from portion control to what foods will help keep me satisfied.”

She also stressed:

“...it's a lifestyle change, not a diet.”

Why Jennifer Hudson chose to lose weight

Although Jennifer Hudson states that she was “comfortable” with the weight she was before her current weight loss, she has stated that one of the reasons for losing weight was to set her child a better example.

She said, in an interview to Good Morning America on April 1, 2010:

“...I want to go in a different direction and find a better lifestyle and a better way.”

And:

“Although I was very comfortable about who I was before, I never had a problem with it....I have a child now and I want to set a great example for him.”

Obesity in America

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web site states that obesity is a problem in America; factors which influence the weight of American people include:

  • increased food intake
  • unhealthy foods
  • lack of exercise.

Weight loss companies and celebrities

Weight loss companies often use celebrities to highlight their products and services; Kirstie Alley become the spokesperson for Jenny Craig but was replaced by Valerie Bertinelli, after Kirstie put back on the weight she had lost through the Jenny Craig Program. In addition, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe was recently challenged by AcaiSupply.com to lose weight through an endorsement of their products.

I cannot believe it! I am shocked that JHud would go on weight watchers, maybe it is a growing trend in money management, but I would love to see these fuller women be advocates for being healthy and active. But I guess everyone has to earn a living regardless. Hopefully she doesn't lose a lot, I think she's stunning! Thanks for posting the article!
