“The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete” is an upcoming film starring Jennifer Hudson as a heroin-addicted mother. The film is scheduled for release on October 11, 2013. The drama was directed by George Tillman, Jr. and written by Michael Starrbury. Jennifer's co-stars include Anthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jordin Sparks.
The movie tells the tale of two inner city youths who are left to take care of themselves over the summer when their mothers get taken away by the authorities. Jennifer stated she was terrified to play the part because she had no reference point. She said, “I'm 31 and I've never, ever, ever had a drink or done a drug in my entire life. I stick with Diet Coke and Crystal Light and water.”
Jennifer currently appears in Darrell J. Roodt's biopic, “Winnie Mandela,” which was just released in the United States. The movie was originally released in Canada in 2011. Jennifer plays the title character, a fearless activist and the former wife of Nelson Mandela. Jennifer spoke to Manhattan magazine about playing this challenging role.
Jennifer felt it was intimidating to play Winnie Mandela after seeing how much she means to people in South Africa. She revealed, “To some she's an angel and to some she is Satan, but either way, woo!” Taking on the role meant getting to know more about Winnie Mandela. Jennifer indicated the strength the woman possessed was amazing. Jennifer admitted, “We put so much into the story and it took a lot out of us.”
With politics in mind, Jennifer expressed admiration for President Barack Obama during her interview with Manhattan magazine. Jennifer feels he is hands-on and aware. She is impressed by how he tells stories off the top of his head about people who have written to him about their health issues. Jennifer marveled at how he remembers their names and every detail. Jennifer added, “He cares enough to know.”
Known for her beautiful voice, Manhattan magazine asked Jennifer about her upcoming album. She quipped, “Should I give away the title? Let's just say you're gonna get Jennifer-ized!” To find out more about Jennifer Hudson, visit Manhattan magazine online or pick up a copy available on newsstands right now.
