Jennifer Egan, Kay Ryan win 2011 Pulitzer Prizes for fiction, poetry -- The 2011 Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists were announced on Monday, and two female writers have won the prize for fiction and poetry respectively. The announcement was made at Columbia University in New York.

Jennifer Egan won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her novel, A Visit from the Goon Squad. The novel is published by Alfred A. Knopf. The novel is also the winner of the 2010 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction.

Poet Kay Ryan won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection entitled The Best of It: New and Selected Poems. The collection is published by Grove Press. Ms. Ryan is not only a former United States Poet Laureate, but her book was also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry.

Each writer will receive a certificate and $10,000. They will be honored along with the 19 other Pulitzer Prize winners at a special luncheon in May.
