When Jennifer Beals pops over to Castle for a two-part mini-event, she stirs things up in a number of ways for Beckett (Stana Katic), Castle himself (Nathan Fillion), and the whole team. It isn’t enough that she has a complicated personal history with the author and civilian crime solver, but she is also stepping into the NYPD’s territory as a CIA operative-- a woman who is smart, stealthy, and ranks above everyone else. As series co-star Tamala Jones put it, “she shakes them up pretty good!”
(Though, we have to say, Beals' Sophia Conrad has quite the juicy history with Castle: she was his inspiration for the character of Clara Strike in his "Desert Storm" novels!)
“She’s a whole different type of character than we’ve ever had on Castle,” series star Jon Huertas added. “She comes from a world that’s highly secretive, so a part of what we deal with with her is that world of secrecy, but also, she opens up about something that affects her relationship with everyone but especially Castle and Beckett.”
It was one thing when a new captain (Penny Johnson Jerald) took her post and changed the way business was conducted, but this is a whole other level.
“She takes total control,” Jones added. “Everyone’s going to have the same attitude of ‘Who does she think she is?’ We’ve got to fall in line because she is an authority, and we have no choice, but at the same time, she actually knows what she’s doing, so we have to take a note out of her book-- a page out of her book-- as to how we have to collaborate with other people of authority in order to solve cases. Sometimes we can get in our own way.”
Ultimately, therefore, Jones thinks that the team will find the addition of Beals’ Sophia Conrad a “good adjustment” because it teaches them to be more flexible in the way they work, but on a personal level? Jones was just thrilled to work with the actress who she called “so talented.”
“I didn’t have any dialogue with her, but we were in a scene, and I’m just going to tell you this: the woman is absolutely stunning, so talented, and she literally brought a lot of different elements to Castle in her performance. She was amazing,” Jones said.
Castle airs on Monday nights at 10pm on ABC. “Pandora” airs on February 13th 2012.
