Jennette McCurdy farewell: Does Jennette McCurdy have 'Sam and Cat' pay gripe?

Jennette McCurdy says good-bye to “Sam and Cat,” as the latest buzz suggests that she won’t be returning to one of Nickelodeon’s highest rated shows. Both McCurdy and Ariana Grande are said to be taking a break after an unusually long production cycle of “Sam and Cat,” according to Newsoxy on April 26.

Producers doubled the amount of episodes originally slated for the show. The “Sam and Cat” show was scheduled for 20 episodes, but the show's popularity took off in leaps and bounds. Striking while the iron is hot, so to speak, this prompted the producers to add another 20 episodes on top of the original 20.

The show is now reportedly on a “hiatus,” which is being called a “much needed rest” for the cast and crew. Call it what they may, but the rumors of McCurdy being indignant over her co-star’s wages being more than what she makes was fueled by a recent Twitter post by McCurdy.

The tension can be cut with a knife between McCurdy and Grande once McCurdy got wind that Grande is paid more than she is for the “Sam and Cat” show’s episodes. After McCurdy skipped the “Kid’s Choice Awards,” which are hosted by Nickelodeon, fans surmised she was sending a message with her absence.

McCurdy tweeted her fans so they would understand why she was a no-show. She apparently felt that she had no choice but to stay true to herself and skip the “Kid’s Choice” event. McCurdy tweeted:

“I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me,” McCurdy then let her fan’s know why she didn’t go to the awards show tweeting: “I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing.”

Without saying that she was in protest of her co-star making more money than she did, she did a pretty good job at alluding to this in the tweet. It is hard to believe that “Sam and Cat” would just fall to the wayside, but the young Nickelodeon star felt she needed to take a stand for herself in the very competitive world of acting.

This could very well be just a “hiatus” if they go back to the drawing board and square things with McCurdy. Unless of course she has no desire to recreate her character once again for another season of “Sam and Cat!” Her tweet sounds as if she feels that she is being treated unfair, so maybe this can be fixed by the people who hold the purse strings?
