There's a solid chance that even if you don't live in Columbus, Ohio you've heard of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. The beyond premium ice cream has been featured by Martha Stewart and her crew and written up in just about every nationwide publication you can think of.
Starting from one shop in the North Market in Columbus' Short North District, there are now 16 shops in Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, and Georgia. Jeni (Britton Bauer) has even written a recipe book on how to make the ice creams yourself, you may have heard of it, it was on the New York Times Best Seller List, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home. Not only can you purchase the ice creams in the scoop shops and in local markets, but you can order it online and have it shipped to you.
What on earth makes the ice cream so good? Well, everything. The company's owner, Jeni Britton Bauer, skimps on nothing when it comes to the ingredients and the preparation of her product. She uses as many local ingredients as possible and importing from organic and small batch farms when that is not possible. She is a stickler for using fresh grass-fed cream and milk products, utilizing Snowville Creamery to meet this need. Jeni's Splendid features both year round flavors like Salty Caramel as well as seasonal treats including Cinderella Pumpkin and Sweet Potato with Torched Marshmallows.
The end result is an ice cream so good people stand outside, in line, in the dead of winter, in Ohio to get a scoop. That says it all right there.
