Jenelle Evans and her husband Courtland Rogers are expecting their first child together this fall and while the Teen Mom 2 star thinks that having another child could help her get custody of her son Jace back, that may be far from reality. In fact, her mother could get custody of her new baby, too.
Celebrity family attorney Vikki Ziegler spoke with Hollywood Life on January 16 and she revealed that because Jenelle has already lost custody of one child, keeping custody of her second may be difficult and she's going to have to be on her best behavior. “The fact that Jenelle did lose custody after a series of arrests for assault and drug possession, plus at least one stint in rehab, means she has to regain the court’s trust,” says Ziegler.
“Jenelle needs to make sure that she gives no reason for her mother, Barbara Evans, who already has custody of Jace, to run to court and make a petition for custody,” Ziegler explains. “If Jenelle’s mother can prove to the court that she’s been doing drugs while pregnant, or if she hasn’t seen her first son, she has potential to win custody of the new baby.”
Earlier this month, Facebook messages between Jenelle and a friend which detailed her Hydrocodone use were leaked to press and while she likely was unaware of the pregnancy at the time, it doesn't change the facts. Jenelle also admitted on Facebook that she had been drinking alcohol on New Year's Eve, while she was pregnant. Drinking on New Year's is far from out of the ordinary, but what Jenelle needs to realize is that she needs to be "Mom of the Year" at all times and will be under a microscope from hear on out.
“She must stay off drugs, make repeated attempts to see her son, Jace, and also to see her husband’s daughter, Jordan (JaJa), 1. She needs to focus on the children who do exist, showing her maternal instincts. Plus, she must focus on her health and keep herself and her fetus out of harm’s way,” Ziegler adds.
Good luck, Jenelle!
