Jelly Belly beer-flavored jelly beans cause factory to smell like a brewery

If you want to trick your taste buds into thinking you’re having a real beer, put your O’Doul’s down and fill your iced cold glass with-- jelly beans? That’s right, Jelly Belly introduces us to a new beer-flavored jelly bean aptly called “draft beer”, according to USA Today on Jan. 23, 2014.

According to Jelly Belly Candy Company’s website, the draft beer jelly bean tastes like a Hefeweizen-inspired ale. Jelly Belly describes the beer –flavored jelly bean as having, “The effervescent and crisp flavor” and being, “Packed in a golden jelly bean with an iridescent finish,” but sans the alcohol.

The company says beer connoisseurs should find the flavor favorable as the beer-flavored jelly beans hold an aroma of “mildly bready.” If that doesn’t sound authentic enough then maybe this will: Jeff Brown, vice president in charge of manufacturing, said in a company press release, “Usually the factory has a sweet and fruity aroma, but when we’re making this flavor it’s just like being in an ale house.”

And with a new Jelly Belly flavor comes a new ingredient to add to the Jelly Belly world of combinations and recipes. One recipe that’s on our list to try is the apple cider shandy (2 draft beers and 1 peach Jelly Belly): coming up!
