Jeff Slate making upcoming Harrifest his third George Harrison tribute

Jeff Slate said Friday he wouldn't have missed being one of the performers at the upcoming Harrifest 2013 tribute to George Harrison.

“I'm thrilled to be part of Harrifest2013,” he told us. “I traveled to Liverpool in 2009 and 2011 for tribute events there, so to play this time in Massachusetts where I have friends and family will be exciting.”

Slate, also our NY Rock Culture Examiner, also said the concert is special because 2013 would have been a milestone birthday for Harrison.

“It's bittersweet to be part of such a wonderful celebration of George's life and to think that he would have been 70 this February, but to also know that he's not here,” he said. “I wish he were here making music for us to hear, making us smile with his wit and simply being a husband to Olivia and father to Dhani.”

Harrifest2013 takes place Feb. 16-17 at Seaport Inn & Marina, Route 6 in Fairhaven, Mass. Also performing at the show are former Apple Records artist Brute Force (“King of Fuh”) and his daughter, Daughter of Force, and 10 Beatles and solo Beatles tribute bands. Also appearing will be Shaun Weiss, son of Beatles associate Nat Weiss, who attended the 1964 Ed Sullivan Show, the Beatles' Shea Stadium show and the Apple Rooftop concert. Sunday's events include a breakfast with WZLX’s “Breakfast With the Beatles” host Cha Chi Loprete.

Tickets are available through the event website.
