Saturday night Ken and I went to see Jeff Jensen at Darwin's in Marietta.
You've heard of musicians making a guitar sing?
Jeff Jensen makes the guitar sing, and scream, and cry and shout.
Also, he's a perpetual motion machine . Jumping, shuffling, sliding, on the stage and off the stage, all the time making that incredible high-energy music while bassist Bill Ruffino (also in perpetual motion) and drummer Robinson Bridgeforth create added excitement and guest Mark Baruth on tenor saxophone punctuated it all with jazzy intensity - well, let's just say the whole place was in a state of happy mayhem.
If you get the idea that my husband and I were impressed, you are so right. Jensen and his band are really, really good ,but we all know that being great musicians does not always equate to an entertaining show. Jensen and his band are great fun to watch as well as great fun to listen to. They catch and hold your attention from the first note to the last.
Jensen also knows how to talk to an audience. He makes you feel like you're all his friends and you're enjoying one big party with your best friends.
So the band was impressive in every way and as much fun as a crowd can handle. We had to leave after the first set but the crowd was already hooting and hollering when we left.
All this, and when I talked to him and got the picture with him he was an extremely nice guy too.
Bottom line: If you get a chance to see The Jeff Jensen Band anywhere, grab it and get ready to have a blast!
Check out the slideshow for a glimpse of the action and my review of Jensen's CD will be coming very soon!
