Jeff Gordon wins back to back pole awards

Jeff Gordon, driving the #24 Axalta Chevrolet, has won the Coors Light Pole award for the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Gordon broke the previous track record, with a 206.558 mph/ 34.857 seconds, Kevin Harvick held the previous record set this past June with a speed of 204.557 mph/ 35.198 seconds.

Gordon won his first pole of the 2014 season at Watkins Glen, a road course track, which is not similar to the 2 mile oval at MIS.

Other than Gordon, Joey Logano and Carl Edwards both hit over 206 mph. Logano will start with Gordon on the front row.

Followed by Edwards, Brian Vickers, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Paul Menard, Austin Dillon, Jamie McMurray, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman will be the first 12 drivers to start.

The Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway will begin at 1 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN.
