Jeff Daniels 'Unplugged' returns to the Purple Rose

Many of Jeff Daniels' fans can point to a favorite movie – from the slapstick "Dumb & Dumber" to the Oscar-winning "Terms of Endearment." Our personal favorite is his role as Col. Joshua Chamberlain in "Gettysburg." And of course, Daniels has a whole new legion of fans, thanks to his hit HBO TV series, “The Newsroom.”

But Michigan fans are just as likely to point to a favorite Jeff Daniels song – perhaps “The Lifelong Tigers Fan Blues” or the Daniels’ standard, “Grandfather’s Hat.” A prolific songwriter as well as actor, playwright, and PRTC Executive Director and Founder, Daniels has an arsenal of songs that are alternately humorous and poignant, which he occasionally performs as part of fundraisers for the theatre and other worthy causes.

If you’ve never heard him sing these songs live, you still have time to squeeze it in this year.

The Purple Rose Theatre Company is presenting Jeff Daniels "Onstage & Unplugged" for a limited engagement through Monday, December 31, 2012. All performances will be at The Purple Rose Theatre Company, on 137 Park Street in Chelsea – which is an intimate venue in which to see a performer of this caliber. There are two shows on Saturday and two on Monday, New Year’s Eve – at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

“Jeff’s got an incredibly busy schedule now, so we’re honored that he’s able to fit in these concerts during his holiday break,” says PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville. Jeff will be joined by special guests Brad Phillips and Jed Fritzemeier, the Ben Daniels Band and Luc “The Roadie” Daniels and his Big Bay Shuffle for both New Year’s Eve performances.

The special event evening show on New Year’s Eve, with tickets priced at $250 for dinner, celebratory drinks, special guests and prizes, is already sold out. But tickets are available online for the 3 p.m. shows. Check the website for full details, including special room rates for those who want to spend the night in charming Chelsea.

After a one-year hiatus from “Unplugged”, this year’s line-up will feature old favorites as well as newer songs from his most recent release "Keep It Right Here (Featuring Brad Phillips and Dominic John Davis)." This and Daniels’ other critically acclaimed albums are available for purchase at The Purple Rose Theatre Company Box Office. CDs and information about Daniels’ music career are also available online at Jeff Daniels’ website.

Tickets for “Onstage & Unplugged” are on sale by phone at 734.433.7673 and online at the Purple Rose Theatre website.
